My most recent painting! I finally got around to pulling out my acrylic paints again, and what a surprise, it only took me about 12 hours to complete the entire painting! This is a picture of my father in law. As soon as I saw the photo (taken with a fish-eye lens, obviously!) I knew that it had to become something more. I was inspired by a painting project my camp kids did over the summer, to paint a portrait using only warm or cool colors. I felt that the warm colors would provide the energy already radiating from this photo. I love the way I turned out! I definitely want to do more portraits in this style.

This was so fun, I may have to do another before the week is up! :) Just a simple little drawing, but I enjoyed it. I must do more!

I made it back from the AIGA convention in Denver last weekend. I met some really cool designers, and I also got a lot of ideas for my portfolio. I was really inspired by Paul Budnitz of Kidrobot and especially Stefan G. Bucher (the G is silent) from the Daily Monster. ( www.dailymonster.com) I can only hope that someday I will be able to make a living by making fun little things from my imagination. Throughout the weekend, whenever I had down time, I went to the fun workshop and made some little monsters of my own. Here are a couple of my favorites. :)

Here is my latest water color painting of two ants peeking over the edge of a leaf. I have been attending botanical water color classes at the San Diego Museum of Art to get some extra practice and learn some more water color techniques.

Mike and I are getting ready for our trip to Denver this week for the AIGA "Next" Design Conference. I am so excited to learn from professionals in the field, and network with other designers and illustrators. Hopefully I'll gain some insight into getting new jobs as well. The big event I am planning for is my student portfolio review on Friday night. I'll be showing my top 5 pieces to hundreds of designers from all over the country, so hopefully I'll get some beneficial feedback from them. This should be an awesome weekend!
